Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

Last updated: October 1, 2026

This page explains your right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information under US state privacy laws, and the simple ways to do it on Life in Steps.

Do we sell your personal information?

We don't sell your personal information for money, and we never sell the emails you send us. However, Life in Steps is free to read because it shows ads through Google AdSense, and that involves some data sharing you should know about.

When you visit our site, Google and its advertising partners may collect information through cookies and similar technologies to show you personalized ads based on your activity across websites. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), this may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Laws in Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana and other US states with similar laws give you comparable rights to opt out of "targeted advertising" or the "sale" of personal data.

What information is involved

The information that may be collected for advertising on our site includes:

  • Identifiers, such as cookie IDs, device identifiers and your IP address;
  • Internet activity, such as the pages you view on our site and how you interact with ads;
  • Device and browser information, such as your browser type, operating system and screen size;
  • Approximate location, such as your country, state or city, based on your IP address.

This information may be made available to Google and to advertising partners that work with Google, such as ad networks, ad exchanges and measurement companies. We don't knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

How to opt out

1. Use our opt-out tool

If you are in a US state where this right applies, you can opt out with one click:

If the button isn't visible, the opt-out tool may not apply in your location, you may have already opted out in this browser, or the tool may be blocked by your browser or an ad blocker. You can still opt out using any of the options below.

2. Turn on Global Privacy Control

Where required by law, we treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a valid opt-out request. GPC is a setting available in some browsers and browser extensions that tells websites you don't want your information sold or shared. Learn more at globalprivacycontrol.org.

3. Email us

Send an email to hello@lifeinsteps.com with the subject line "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information". You don't need to create an account, and we won't ask for more information than we need to handle your request.

Because advertising cookies are tied to your browser and device rather than to your name, the opt-out tool and GPC are the most effective ways to stop this sharing. If you email us, we'll apply your request to any personal information we hold about you and explain any steps you need to take in your browser.

4. Turn off personalized ads

You can also manage or turn off personalized Google ads in Google My Ad Center, and opt out of interest-based ads from many participating companies at optout.aboutads.info. You can block or delete cookies in your browser too: see our Cookie Policy for step-by-step links.

Good to know

Opt-outs made with our tool, GPC or your browser settings apply to the browser and device you use at the time. If you use several browsers or devices, or if you clear your cookies, you may need to opt out again.

How we respond to requests

We act on opt-out requests as soon as we reasonably can and within the time required by law. For California residents, that means no later than 15 business days after we receive the request. We respond to other privacy requests, such as requests to know, correct or delete your personal information, within 45 days. Some laws allow us to extend this once by another 45 days when reasonably necessary, and we'll tell you if we need more time.

You don't need to verify your identity to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information, but we may ask for more details if we have reason to believe a request is fraudulent. For requests to know, correct or delete information, we may need to verify your identity before we respond.

If we decline your request, we'll explain why. Depending on where you live, you may appeal our decision by replying to our response with "Appeal" in the subject line, and we'll respond within the time required by your state's law.

Authorized agents

You can ask an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We may ask the agent to provide signed written permission from you, and we may ask you to confirm your identity or confirm the request directly with us, unless the agent has a valid power of attorney under applicable law.

No discrimination

We won't discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. We won't block you from the site, charge you a different price or give you a lower-quality experience. After you opt out, you'll still see ads, but they will be less related to your interests.
