Accessibility Statement

Last updated: October 1, 2026

We want everyone to be able to read and use Life in Steps, whatever device, browser or assistive technology they use. This statement explains what we do, where we still have work to do and how to tell us about a problem.

Our commitment

We aim to make lifeinsteps.com conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including people who are blind or have low vision, are deaf or hard of hearing, or have motor, cognitive or learning disabilities.

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We consider it when we design pages and write new articles, and we fix issues as we find them.

What we do

  • Semantic structure. Pages use proper headings, lists, landmarks and tables so screen readers can navigate them easily.
  • Text alternatives. Informative images have descriptive alt text, and purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Readable contrast. We choose text and background colors that aim to meet WCAG contrast requirements.
  • Keyboard navigation. You can use the site with a keyboard alone. Focus is clearly visible, and a "Skip to content" link lets you jump past the menu.
  • Resizable, responsive text. Text can be zoomed up to 200% without losing content, and the layout adapts to phones, tablets and desktops.
  • Reduced motion. We keep animations minimal and respect your device's reduced-motion setting.
  • Clear writing. We write in plain language, use descriptive link text and break instructions into short, numbered steps.

Known limitations

Despite our efforts, some parts of the site may not be fully accessible:

  • Third-party ads. Ads are provided by Google AdSense and its partners. We don't control their content or code, and some ads may not meet accessibility standards.
  • Consent and privacy messages. Privacy messages are provided by Google's consent tool, and their accessibility depends on that provider.
  • Embedded content. Embedded videos or other third-party content may lack captions or have limited keyboard support.
  • Pinterest images. Some pin graphics contain text inside the image. The same information is always included in the article text.
  • Older articles. Some older articles may have missing or incomplete alt text. We update them as we review our content.

Compatibility

Life in Steps is designed to work with recent versions of popular browsers, such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, and with common screen readers and other assistive technologies. Older browsers may not display every feature correctly.
